Re: Asian week at Lidl's
Hi Angie.
Thanks, I did see the promo on it, but I had already ordered a lot of stuff from the online shop that I use, so no problem for me. I did find that the basmati rice I bought from Lidl was not that good, as did not have much flavour, but thats my view.
I probably will go this week as need to get some more of the Norimberger pork sausages , as they are really good for breakfast or lunch.
Hopefully I will find that Asian shop that you mentioned in Tolentino, as need to get some more samosas and a spicy mango chutney to go with cheese. The last lamb samosas were great, reminded me of Ramadan in Jeddah, where we used to buy them from a street stall in Jeddah to take back to the apartment to eat after work.

A little warning. Be very careful when you buy soy sauce from supermarkets. There is a huge difference between the authentic stuff, naturally brewed, and the rest, which is full of unwanted chemical additives.mit is the same difference between authentic aceto balsamic on and the rest, which is flavored and colored with caramel. Yes, there is a huge difference in price....

Re: Asian week at Lidl's
Agree with you Gala. I usually buy mine from the Chinese shop, or with the Kikoman, from the mail order company that I use.
Re: Asian week at Lidl's
Thx for the advice Gala, I will compare ingredients of my more expensive soy sauce to the cheap one. Geo, I did buy some Norimberger sausages and thoroughly enjoyed them, also bought some (left over from Mexican week) spicy cheddar cheese which I think I will use to make some cheese scones for visiting friends this afternoon....

Re: Asian week at Lidl's
I am currently in Spain and they are also having the Asian week at Lidl. Because of my husband!s strict diet I was unable to buy many of my "usuals" as most of these preparations have high salt contents. But I got the rice, vinegar and nori for sushi. Another interesting purchase were the Asian yoghurt so. I also bought tinned of mango slices and lychees. I make a very nice and easy fake bavarois, mixing flavored, diluted gelatins (any flavor) with flavored yoghurt and the tinned fruit and keeping it in the fridge for some 6 hours before eating it.

Re: Asian week at Lidl's
French week now. Unfortunately no pate, but mainly cheese. The Dijon mustard is also a good buy, as there is no real choice here.
Glad you liked the sausages, as I try to get a few packs of them whenever I go.
With the Vitasia stuff, I would normally go for the sliced bamboo shoots and the chow mein noodles. The spring rolls are well overpriced and the canned food is pretty tasteless.

Thx Geo, I did not know Lidls was now doing a French week and I do need some Dijon mustard. Back to pate, have you tried the 'spreadable meat and liver sausage' made by Dulano....OH likes it on bread / crackers, goodness knows what it contains....!! Gala I too have some Lidl 'Asian' yogurt and very good it is too...

Re: Asian week at Lidl's
In Spain we are also having the French week. We also had one a few months ago. This time they are only advertising cheese (the Petit Brie de Sainte-Cecile is very good and so is the Munster). Lidl has its own brand for French products, called "Duc de Coeur" and they are very good products, handy to have in the freezer, such as Quiche Lorraine, Flammekuche (both sweet and savory), frozen, ready to bake croissants, ratatouille. Not recommended for those on a diet...but yummy. They also have cider from Normandy and some wine, but they have not advertised these. "Bon appétit !"

Re: Asian week at Lidl's
I did find a pate there a while ago, but cannot remember if it was Dulano. It was a chicken and turkey one, but very good. The next time I went it was out of stock. Will look for it again, hopefully at the end of this week.
Pleased you liked the sausages, as have found them so much better than any types I buy here, as usually far too salty.

Re: Asian week at Lidl's
Pate was there again on todays visit. Bought the smooth and coarse versions, plus a couple of French cheeses.
Did not get chance to go to the Asian shop, as was running a bit late, but will make sure I get there soon. If they don't have the samosas, then it will be a divert to Corridonia.

Thanks Vicino.
Shame only the veggie ones. The one in Corridonia had lamb, chicken and veggie versions.

If you like samosas, you would love "empanadas" https://sophisticatedsamosaisp.wordpress.com/2011/12/29/samosa-siblings-empanada/
Try to find a Mexican or Argentine restaurant or food shop in your area. There are many Argentinians who have dual nationality through Italian ancestry and many have emigrated back to Italy because of the economic problems in their country and the fact that the culture and language have similarities. The Argentine empanadas are delicious.

Re: Asian week at Lidl's
Yes, Vicino, the "empanadas" have similarities with the Cornish pasties and the pies, and also with a slightly different kind of empanadas that is eaten in Galicia and Portugal. Now, these savory pastries are all specialties from European regions with a strong Celtic influence.nin the case of the Latin American empanadas, these were brought to the New World by the Conquistadores and the settlers, and it is important to remember that many of them were from Galicia...
