B&B
Is it true that if you are running a B&B business in Italy there are tax consessions ie you dont have to pay any tax for x number of weeks as it is supposed to attract tourism to the area?

Re: B&B
Don't think it's true, well not according to people we know who run B&Bs in Tuscany.

Re: B&B
Interesting Flip....I was told by an Italian married to a UK person a few yrs back...I will keep digging and see what turns up....It sort of makes sense...not sure of the number of weeks a year but 6 or 8 to comes to mind...I am sure a Commercialista could shed some light on this.....

Re: B&B
Depends on your region/province/comune. There are local tax breaks, but not national - apart from usual IRPEF deductions.
Re: B&B
Thanks modicasa, I did wonder if it was a regional thing. Maybe Tuscany Flip, does not need to attract any more tourism unlike Marche.

Re: B&B
I think there is maybe a bit of confusion. You can rent your property out for X weeks (the number depends on your Region - I think Marche was 8 weeks) a year without registering in any way or having a P.IVA or meeting any regulations. The income has to go on your tax return though as other income so there are some taxes you don't pay. It's not a B&B thing though.
If you are a B&B then you don't need to meet any regulations or have a P.IVA but all income has to be declared on your tax return again. In both cases you need to notify the Comune of the dates you will be open/renting and the price and register your guests presence.

Re: B&B
The laws covering B&B operate at regional and provincial level. Whether you needa P.Iva etc all depends on how many beds you rent - whether it is a way of adding a bit of dosh to the househould kitty or whether it is a business. And of course there are laws which govern whether you can be a B&B - size of rooms, windows, escape routes, etc etc etc etc. There are no national incentives for tourism. There are deductions available on your IRPEF whether it be a casa vacanze or a B&B or an affittacamera -

Yes,Admin and modi have said it.Basically,by definition,b&b cannot be a "business"() in the strict sense given the restictions on the number of bedrooms (3 max)number of weeks a year you're allowed to operate most areas it's about 90 days, that you cannot serve non industrially packed foodstuffs (with expiry dates/contents etc etc)or alcohol.Actually it's not so dissimilar to legislation in France and perhaps the UK.Of course,if you say want to rent out 6 rooms and "do it" all year round ,serve meals, alcohol and all the rest then it's no longer b&b but falls under legislation concerning hotels/guest houses etc which opens the pandoras box of VAT, h&s requirements, inspections and quite heavy taxation. The regional differences are in fact fairly insignificant and do not change the big picture.
Re: B&B
I've got a copy of a the Marche rules if you want them. They are from a couple of years ago when we rented ours out so they may have changed a little. It doesn't refer to taxes but we asked our accountant at the time.
