Can Italian tax credit be used against IUC?
Another I read recently, so can Italian tax credit be used against IUC components? I never seen much point in trying to gain any tax credit if we could never recover it, but it would be worthwhile if this is correct.

Do you mean IUC? They are two totally different things - your tax credits are for IRPEF (income tax) and not local council tax (IUC) so the answer is no.

Thanks Modi (I've corrected it to IUC). I was doubtful about it, but then thought "well they are both paid via an F24, so perhaps..."

No, but if your VAT is in credit than it can be used to pay for IMU. Our accountant has just used our company's VAT credit to pay this year's IMU.
