IS "HEALTHY" FOOD REALLY HEALTHY?
I am a regular follower and admirer of Heather Jarman's blog "Sapori e Saperi", which I find most interesting. This is the latest post on how healthy some food is and what we are told by both experts and the media, which could be quite confusing.
Healthy or unhealthy
I guess that moderation is the key. Even the healthiest dishes can become unhealthy if we eat them in excess.
What do you think?
As you have a look at this particular post, I strongly recommend you to read other posts such as the ones on arts and crafts.
Enjoy!

You are what you eat.... but it takes a long time to get where you are or change... If longevity is anything to go by, then a lot of Italians eat healthy, but not quite as many as in Japan... Could that be the reason we left the UK!

A well balanced diet seems to be the key. Both the Mediterranean diet and the Japanese one seem to work very well. Also, to eat less calories as we grow older, we do not need that many as we are less active... or we should exercise more. Even going for a good walk helps a lot. Italy is blessed with an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables that we can buy almost directly (and sometimes directly from the producer), or for those with a green thumb to grow them is also a possibility. Fish is also readily available and an excellent source of Omega 3. Variety and moderation are the keys to good health and longevity

An interesting article explaining some interactions. Olive oil on salads and fresh or cooked vegetables is excellent; however, we should keep in mind that olive oil, no matter how good it is, is still a fat and we should not "soak" food in extra virgin olive oil just because of its goodness. Everything in moderation. A glass of wine with our meals is also excellent, too many glasses will give us liver disease or, at least, a fatty liver. Another easily forgotten type of food which is an integral part of the Mediterranean diet is pulses (and I do not mean baked beans). I make a great salad combining cooked lentils, chopped tomatoes, cucumber, onion, garlic, parsley and mint seasoned with olive oil, salt pepper and plenty of lemon juice. Delicious and highly nutritional!
Also, here is an excellent article on Mediterranean Diet
