You are right, it does not sound good at all. Let's hope that Mother Earth will decide to stop shaking her head...

Is it normal for Italy to have so many events within a 30 day period? I'm pretty sure I've checked a site for earthquake activity in the past and you'd see a list like that covering the whole world.

Not really as many as recently, but there are often times when there are several in a day. I also don't think it uncommon when you have a one like this (4-5 mag) where there are several smaller before and after the event... If you look on the web for the UK you will find there are several a year which surprised me, but they are often below 2 where they don't get recorded on most sites...

Yes, Mother Earth enjoys quite a bit of shaking, rattling and rocking. It is the intensity and frequency that makes the big difference and 4.9 (some reports said 5.2) is quite a tremor. Also, it is in an area that is prone to this type of seismic events.

Click on 'last 2 weeks' (which I just did) and there are 969 earthquakes in and around the wider Mediterranean area.
