A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
Guide to the new taxes - in English: Handy Guide to Taxes
Not sure it tells us anything though, other than watch this space!

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
Ah that reminds me, there was a discussion on here about TARES recently as to whether or not the bills we had were the full year... Well ours, as we suspected, was NOT. We now have the 3rd instalment paid and expect another by the end of the year. It only works out at almost a 50% increase....!

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
... well eventually our Comune have posted something on TARES Comune LINK, but only now, despite the fact we have already paid 3 installments... However they now seem to be telling me we have ANOTHER to pay... What goes on with this lot I don't know... At least in the UK you know for sure (and well in advance) what you have to pay... As for IMU well see Ghiro'd post. We are still none the wiser !!!

Yes, but the trouble is a number of people we know have now left Italy for the Christmas holidays.... A number of them will not know about it and those that do will worry about the unpaid bill, some people still bother about such things.. It's little wonder the country is in such a mess. What a shame.

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
Good to see you've posted in the right place at the right time Steve - for once!!
But, more seriously, you're absolutely correct. There were a number of matters which required me to come to Italy for a while recently (such hardship!) but one was that (as I believed then) I had to pay our IMU before mid-December.
I know from bitter experience that the daily fine for late payment of taxes in Italy can add up.
But when the rules seem to change on a weekly/daily/hourly basis it's very difficult to know when to book your flights.

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
I think the fines for late payments are pathetic, frankly. I have just paid a clients IMU for 2 years, i.e. since 2011 and his fines/late payment sanctions came to less than 20 euros. Pay my car bollo a year late - 11 euros thank you. Don't pay your income tax and evade 200.000 euros, you can strike a deal with the taxman where you pay 30.000 and its all forgotten - not exactly a deterrent.....
Hey!
Just what do you mean... The wrong place I can except, but the the wrong time!ghiro wrote:Good to see you've posted in the right place at the right time Steve - for once!! It's not the fine that particularly bothers me, but it is nice to know Modi has said any fine is small, I'll not bother to try to find out if we owe anything... It's the fact that we owe something as we always pay our bills on time and have never done anything other. I still think the fact you don't get a bill for this as stupid and yet another reason as to why Italy is in such a mess...

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
Our commune were late in announcing the IMU tax and we have been given an extension to the mid December deadline to the beginning of January. Is the rubbish tax element of the new tax payable now or with the new Taris tax whenever that may be. We have been in England this last month, not due to go back until beginning of Feb. Looking on line our commune seems to discuss this a lot but make any decisions.

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
I agree with Steve, not getting a proper bill for such an important payment seems totally insane. My hubby went to the Comune in September and was able to sort it out, but we should not be forced into this kind of difficult situations, when we are paying full rates without deductions because our properties are holiday homes. As I have always said, I do not mind paying, but Council should make things easier for all concerned.

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
I cannot agree more !
If they send me a bill I will pay it. I seem to spend months running around, searching the far corners of the Interweb for clues to what and when I should pay.............just decide, send me a bill and and I'll pay the money !!
There must be a reason why they don't ?
A friend told me once that it is not their job to COLLECT taxes, but is is my job to PAY taxes.

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
The 'aggiunti' for the TARES are being sent out now - and should be paid by 23 January.
The difference is between an imposta and a tax. Tax you calculate, imposte require bills. Tares is an imposta. IMU is a tax. The new IUC is neither fish nor fowl and nobody knows.

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
Modi - did you mean IMU or TARES in your last comment?
Molinello - the rubbish tax is called TARES for 2013 and you should get a bill for that (quite often late and with a fine already added which irritates me).
IMU this year is a mess and almost every Comune is late declaring their rates but you have to calculate that (some comuni are very helpful and will do it for you and others not). YOu should have paid the rate indicated by the government by 16th December and if your comune decides to ask for a higher rate you have until 23rd January to pay the extra bit. I don't believe the comuni can extend the deadlines as it is set by the government but maybe Modicasa knows.

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
Both the aggiunti for IMU and TARES are payable by 23 Jan, already extended from 16 January. Comunes cant unilaterally change the date. You should have a bill for TARES but not for IMU.

The information provided here is simply excellent. I've thought for a while that the only thing lacking from this forum is the input/interest from new members looking to buy in Italy. Ok it generates the same old questions, but I do think it makes a forum. Saying that there is time yet as some gems do take some finding...

I agree , Steve. Those questions, even those that become repetitive, promote interaction and are the soul of any forum.

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
Does anyone know if there is a state element to TARES? I realised whilst in the UK that our comune may still have a 4th instalment of TARES (it was all very unclear, as always), so asked them (by email) if there was an o/s payment... They eventually came back saying there was €72 to pay (€11 more than the other 3 previous instalments) AND €31 "PAGAMENTO MAGGIORAZIONE STATALE" Now I'm only guessing here, but that could be (near enough) 3x11 Euro's owing to the state for the 1st 3 earlier payments?

Re: A handy guide to IMU TARES and other taxes
Hi Steve,
How long is a piece of string !! I think that it depends on your comune. We have had a range of these taxes, but at least we get a bill !
TARES and TARSU........
TARES €27 paid 26/9/13
TARSU €82 paid 31/12/13
Total €109 for 2013
Our previous (Rifuiti Solidi Urbani) €89 paid 28/2/13 (for 2012)
Total €89 for 2012
These 2012 figures were the same in 2011 and 2010.
Pay up young man !!!

Thanks folks (I'd missed the replies for some reason). Admin, for 2013 we paid €121 in May (guessing 2 instalments of 60.5), then €61 in Sep and now the final bit of €72 to the comune and 31 to the state. A total of €285... In 2012 we paid €184, so quite a hike, but this year we did not may any IMU at all.... Yep "V" you can say pay up, but look at your paltry increase over 2012... But yes, we have at least always had a bill for our rubbish tax and at least we do get something for the payment and the guy (same one every time) is very helpful and friendly.
