Surely illegal?
This afternoon my daughter and I picked up a hire car from a local garage. While there we noticed a sign they were displaying. It read:
'As a counter-terrorist measure we are unable to rent any vehicle to Islamists'.
This would undoubtedly be illegal in the UK. But in Italy......?

Ghiro, the anti discriminatory "Legge Mancino" exists in Italy since 1993. YEs, it is very unfair to use the word "Islamists" in this context, as the large majority of Muslim people are peaceful people who do not condone terrorist acts, although I really wish they would be more vocal and effective in the condemnation and control of these awful people. These are difficult times and events like these stir up lots of emotions. On the other hand, my first reaction was: "I only wish that they had a similar sign at the place where the Nice terrorist rented the deadly truck"...

Presumably this is just to cover themselves in case something awful happens re a car they rent - nobody is going to admit to being an Islamist intent on deadly deeds.

I agree, Hazy. I even think that a determined terrorist will try to get someone else to rent the vehicle. And I do not believe that there is such a person as the "lonely wolf". We are consistently seeing that there is a network behind them...
