Italy's 'big babies': court orders father to pay for upkeep of 28-year-old son
An Italian court has ordered a middle-aged father to keep supporting his 28-year-old son through university, after he turned to the law to try and force his offspring to get a job.
The case underlines the country's problem with "bamboccioni" - spoilt "big babies" who refuse to leave home and instead sponge off their parents.
The father had gone to court to argue that he should no longer be obliged to support his son, challenging one of the conditions of his divorce settlement, which had ruled that he must pay for the young man’s tertiary education.
The son completed a degree in literature, taking several years longer than expected to finish the course, and has now enrolled on a post-graduate course in experimental cinema in Bologna.

These articles come round with depressing regularity about every 2 years. The last one was the 42 year old who went to court to force his dad to continue giving him pocket money.

It certainly seems as if it’s a ‘strange & vague’ legal system though…another odd ruling. I’m not sure if shopkeepers would agree...
Theft of sausage and cheese by hungry homeless man 'not a crime'
Italy’s highest court rules that Roman Ostriakov took food because he was in desperate need of nourishment.

I see what you mean CM but the Judge got it right on a Human level. What is the point in prosecuting a man in such a situation where it was obvious from his circumstnces that he was at his wits end. Compassion in these situations is what is right and we all know of the wastage that occurs with Supermarkets and food items, good on him for making a stand for people with no support and no means of providing for themselves in this cruel World we find ourselves in. The ridiculousness of it that it cost so much to bring such an action to Court in the first place.
